The Oscar buzz is beginning to fade. It had some great moments and some bad moments, as expected. Good thing that the movie industry is in perpetual movement. We’re dying to see the blockbusters and what movie will break records at the box office. Some great sequels are announced and some new hits from acclaimed directors, too. Indie cinema also has some goodies in the bag and, personally, we’re most intrigued by this field of cinema. That doesn’t mean we don’t have our guilty (comic books inspired) pleasures. We’ve gathered for you some of the most anticipated movies, movies that, chances are, will be highly successful this year.
10. Need For Speed
Breaking Bad star, Aaron Paul looks very cool in the trailer of this new car chase action packed movie. Inspired by the cult eponymous cult game, some might say from the recent trailer that “Need For Speed” resembles the “Fast and the furious” franchise. We bet that this won’t be a bad thing for die-hard car gamers. The movie will have its premiere and will hit theaters on the 14th of March and it’s one of the most anticipated movies.
9. Godzilla
The infamous Japanese monster will be brought again on film by the indie director Gareth Edwards, who made the successful low budget “Monsters”. From the trailer it seems that the new Godzilla looks more like the Japanese first incarnation of the monster in 1954. It doesn’t look like Roland Emmerich’s 1998 giant lizard. The new mutant reptile looks more frightening. The movie will be released on May 16th and it stars again Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston. Looks good.
8. Noah
We’re predicting a new wave of biblical movies in the coming future. It hasn’t been done in a long time and critics say this type of movies, if done by visionary directors, can be both a box office and critically acclaimed. The last of this kind we remember was Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ”. Now it’s time for the famous “Requiem for a dream” director, Darren Aronofsky to show his talents in the new biblical inspired movie called “Noah”. It tells the story of the biblical character who builds the famous ark before the big flood destroys everything. See you on the 28th of March at one of the most anticipated movies.
7.Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Remember Michelangelo, Donatello, Raphael and Leonardo? We’re not talking about the famous artists, we’re talking about the talking, walking cartoon ninja turtles. Michael Bay is the producer of this big budget film and since some of us were fans of the cartoon series, we’re going to wait for it with not so high expectations. The movie will be released August 8th.
6. Jupiter Ascending
We loved everything from the Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix Trilogy, Cloud Atlas) and we have a feeling that their new movie will not be an exception. The trailer looks great and the movie is about an earth girl (Mila Kunis) that has the necessary DNA to fight and evil Queen of the Universe. She is helped by Channing Tatum in this sci-fi eye candy. The official release is on the 18th of July.
5. Most anticipated movies – X-Men: Days of Future Past
The new X-Men movie will definitely be a hit, since all the previous ones in the franchise were successful. In the new one, the X-Men have to travel back in time to stop a giant robot apocalypse from destroying the earth. A guilty pleasure, we know. May 23rd is the release date.
4. Interstellar
“The Dark Knight“ director Christopher Nolan’s new movie stars the Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey and is about wormholes and time travel. Will it be as mind-boggling as Inception? We sure hope so. The movie will be out on November 7th.
3. Snowpiercer
This one looks very creepy. And we love creepy. It looks like it will be a futuristic, apocalyptic movie that happens in a train that moves around continuously. It stars Chris Evans, our favorite Tilda Swinton and it’s directed by the South Korean film maker Joon-ho Bong. Snowpiercer will be released on June 27th.
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Another guilty pleasure is the sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger, which was way better than we expected and not because we have a little crush on Chris Evans. The movie was entertaining, delivering exactly what it promised. We really hope that part deux will be at least the same.
1.Sin City: A Dame To Kill For
Rememeber Sin City? It was a major hit back in 2005 and we kept waiting for another sequel for years. It seems that this time it’s happening. We’ve seen the first trailer and it looks amazing. 22nd of August has a special place in our calendar and it has to be the most anticipated movies.
