Among gamers, strategy games are probably the most popular, mostly due to the fact that they require attention to details and effective strategies for overcoming the opponent. RTS games (Real Time Strategy) continue to be among the favorite and this year does not lack interesting titles in this segment.
However, there are many TBS games (Turn Base Strategy), appreciated by those who want to have more time to think before making a decision about how to continue the action.
The most complex strategy games, however, are the type 4X (Explore, Expand, Exploit and Exterminate) that put you in the shoes of a hero (or demon, depending on how you look at it) to conquer the whole world.
The multiplayer component is also well developed in an era where Internet access is easy, so MMORPG games (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game) also enjoy a major success.
So, here are ten strategy games to look forward to.
Galactic Civilizations 3 is one of the most anticipated strategy games of the year and the producers promise a number of important improvements in terms of spacecraft design and level of detail. In addition, the third game in the series is the first to include online multiplayer component, although previous titles had problems in this area. There are also less good news: the game can be installed only on computers with 64-bit processors, which could be a problem for most of the fans.
The sequel to the game with the same name emerged in 2001, Kingdom under Fire 2 combines several sub -genres into one strategy, including RPG, RTS and MMO. Therefore, the game lets you command units and at the same time fight your enemies. The game features three factions and over 100 types of units and gives you the opportunity to form alliances to defeat some strong rivals.
3. Smite
Smite is a free online multiplayer game that addresses especially Greek mythology enthusiasts. We say this because in the new game type MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) actors are gods borrowed from various mythologies and cultures of the world. Of course, your role is to demonstrate why you are god in fighting with various rivals who disagree with the authority you want to impose. The game is already available in beta version, but will be officially launched later this year.
4. Stonehearth
Are you one of those who played Minecraft a lot when you were little? Sure, you don’t play anymore because you grew up and you want to be a leader, and Stonehearth is just right for you. You can get into the skin of the leader of a group of characters who builds, takes care of mineral resources, defends his territories and, inevitably, attempts to expand the boundaries. There is also a Co-op module, where you will be able to spend more time in a game that, at least apparently, is quite short.
5. Warhammer 40,000: Space Wolf
Previous games in the Warhammer 40,000 series have emerged particularly violent, so achieving a strategy game is not exactly easy. In this new game, Space Wolves must fight against the forces of Chaos in an environment dominated by cold and snow, but the conduct of the conflict will depend largely on the strategies they adopt.
Zombies games are becoming increasingly popular and new strategy titles are emerging. Relatively predictable, in the World Zombination you have to choose if you’re part of the team of people or zombies. As a man, your mission is one primarily defensive, but if you choose to play as a zombie things change, because you have to conquer the earth through various methods.
Dungeon of the Endless is a Type 4X strategy game that takes place in underground Auraxia planets. As a leader, you have the task of leading a group of survivors to the surface, but the objective is not easily satisfied: everywhere you have to face many opponents and the strongest are near the ship that can lead to the surface.
8. Mad Max
Open-world action, fighting machines, multiple ways to approach situations and a graphical presentation of exception: these are the ingredients with which Mad Max will try to conquer fans this year.
After the failure of Dragon Age 2, the BioWare producing team took a prolonged pause trying not to repeat the mistakes of the past with the future Dragon Age: Inquisition. For starters, the combat system will be seriously improved, tactical view mode will be implemented in all five versions of the game, and not just for the PC edition as it did in previous titles. Also, graphics will have an obvious upgrade withe Frostbite graphics engine 3.
10. Dying Light
Zombie invasions remain some of the most fashionable topics of the moment. The Polish guys from Techland took advantage of this, adding a dose of originality to the already known formula: the action in Dying Light takes place in an open world game environment affected by the day / night cycle. If during daytime the undead are confused and weakened, darkness transforms their behavior, becoming more organized and aggressive. Thank God for the parkour moves which the main character is endowed with.
