Everybody wants to stay fit, but not everyone knows that it is actually very easy to do this. You don’t have to go to the gym every day, or starve yourself to death. There are a lot of things you can do around the house, for example, that will help you maintain your silhouette. Exercise is important not only in order to look good, but also for the general mood and health of the body and mind. If you want to become more active, here are a few great ideas.

  1. Take the dog for a walk

According to recent studies, people who walk their dogs are a lot healthier than the ones that don’t. Owning a dog is a responsibility, because you not only have to feed him, but you also have to walk him at least twice a day. Don’t be lazy, think of it as an opportunity of walking, seeing new things and so on. Take advantage of your dog, make him happy by walking him more, and also take care of the way you look. If you don’t have a dog you can offer to walk a neighbor’s dog.

  1. Take care of your sidewalk

The front yard of a house says a lot about the person living in it. In other words, you should sweep and weed it regularly. Make a habit of keeping the path to your house tidy and you will have a lot of things to gain. First of all your look will look better for potential buyers, for instance, and you will also get the chance to do a little extra exercise.

  1. Return misdelivered mail

It happens all the time. Sometimes the mailman is tired or careless, and he brings you your neighbor’s mail. Why not do something nice and also burn some calories while you’re doing it? Instead of phoning your neighbor to come over, you can over there yourself. Not only will you get chance to socialize but you will also exercise a little.

  1. Exercise in the morning

Exercising in the morning is the perfect way to start a day. You don’t have to go to great lengths. All you have to do is stretch a little, and go check your mail. We especially recommend back stretches, because people who sit a lot at the office tend to have back pains.

  1. Take advantage of your sidewalk

It’s there, why not take advantage of it? Moreover, depending on where you live, you most definitely have a park somewhere nearby. Go for a walk from time to time, when the weather is nice, stop by a neighbor, catch up. Don’t make it feel like some sort of exercise, but rather a normal routine which you look forward to.

  1. Keep a sleep log

Sleep is very important if you want to stay healthy and fit. This is why you should sleep at least six hours a night (especially during 11pm-8am) so that your body and brain can recover from the previous day. You might not feel it now, but people who are sleep deprived are more likely to gain weight. Monitor your sleeping hours day by day, and try to embrace a healthier lifestyle.

  1. What to do when the weather is bad

Nobody feels like leaving his house when it’s cold or raining. But if you feel like going for a walk, why not visit the mall? It’s warm inside and you can also check a lot of stores. Maybe even buy something nice. You can even drink your morning coffee there.

  1. Make a walking club

If you live in a neighborhood the best way to make new friends is to find common interests. A lot of people want to loose weight or maintain it, so this is a starting point. You can propose a walking club which will definitely motivate both you and them.

  1. Buy a bike

It’s not hard to ride a bike, and it can work miracles on your body. Riding a bike is also very enjoyable, especially when the weather is nice. You can also grab some binoculars and go bird watching for example. Or you can ride the bike to your local newspaper stand. There are so many things you can do to make exercise become part of your normal routine.

  1. Have a monthly trash patrol day

Living in a neighborhood is awesome because people are usually very involved in the life of the community. Everybody likes a clean and pretty neighborhood, so we advise you to propose a monthly trash patrol day during which you get rid of the excess trash, dead branches and so on. This will not only benefit your community, but you will also burn some serious calories.
