We all watched the Emmys last night. What a great ceremony. The Emmy Awards are the equivalent of the Oscars but for Television series and we’re really glad that some of our favorite shows received the recognition they deserved. We’re talking about some True Detective, Breaking Bad, Modern Family. There were some disappointing moments, as with any awards ceremony, and we were really sad that Orange is the new black left empty handed. Well, maybe next time. We really liked Billy Crystal’s speech about the late Robin Williams. Let us look at the 2014 Emmy Nominations and Awards.
One of the most important awards at the Emmys is of course the award for best drama. Last night the beautiful Halle Berry presented the nominees and the winner. Let’s quickly recap the nominations for Outstanding Drama:
“Downton Abbey”
“Breaking Bad”
“Game of Thrones”
“House of Cards”
“Mad Men”
“True Detective”
And the winner is…Breaking Bad, of course. For us, True Detective was our Outstanding Drama of 2018 but we’re happy with this year’s winner as well. I mean, everyone loved Breaking Bad and we mean like EVERYONE. Vince Gilligan, the creator of the series accepted the award and said it was “a wonderful farewell to our show.” Congratulations to everyone who made this show possible, especially Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul and Anna Gunn.
Next we want to look at the nominations and winner for Outstanding Comedy. This was presented by the popular talk show host Jay Leno. And the nominees are:
“The Big Bang Theory”
“Louie”
“Modern Family”
“Orange is the New Black”
“Silicon Valley”
“Veep”
And the winner for Outstanding Comedy is Modern Family. It wasn’t a big surprise to anyone that Modern Family has won the award for best comedy. It won for five years in a row. And for good reason, but we were hoping that things will change a bit and Orange is the New Black will take the honors this year.
Seth Myers joked about the presenter for Outstanding Actor in a Drama saying “Please welcome a woman who starred in Mystic Pizza 25 years ago, and was never heard from again — Julia Roberts!” We found that pretty funny, not that we have anything against Pretty Woman cause we don’t. Here are the nominees for Outstanding Actor in a Drama:
Jeff Daniels, “The Newsroom”
Jon Hamm, “Mad Men”
Bryan Cranston, “Breaking Bad”
Woody Harrelson, “True Detective”
Matthew McConaughey, “True Detective”
Kevin Spacey, “House of Cards”
Although we love Kevin Spacey, the award for Best Dramatic Actor went to Bryan Cranston for his role as a meth maker in Breaking Bad. Cranston’s performance in that show is truly mesmerizing so he deserved the award big time.
Next it is time to present another important award. This time it’s for Outstanding Actress in a Drama. The nominees and winner were presented by Viola Davis. Here are the 2014 Emmy Nominations and Awards:
Lizzy Caplan, “Masters of Sex”
Claire Danes, “Homeland”
Michelle Dockery, “Downton Abbey”
Julianna Margulies, “The Good Wife”
Kerry Washington, “Scandal”
Robin Wright, “House of Cards”
And the winner for Outstanding Actress in a Drama is…drums rolling…Julianna Marguiles for The Good Wife. Yay to Julianna because we really love her in that show. Julianna said in her acceptance speech “What a wonderful time for women on television…”
