The Oscars are dead, long live the Oscars! Or something like that. Why would we even consider such topic? Because it is a new – found trend in the entertainment media to make early predictions about the future Oscar nominations and movies and everybody is talking about the next hottest silver screen productions to fight for the golden statue. Now with the 2014 Oscar Awards fuss and buzz fading away, people need new movies to look up to, place their bets on and deeply wish to win, while the criteria for such predictions range from personal preferences to the names of their directors, from the plot lines and twists to the actors blessing the movies with their presence. Since we are all in favor for watching movies any time around here, we took a look over these early predictions heavy rotated on the Internet in the past weeks and present you with the hottest picks from cinema critics and movie specialists while making our own 10 movies to make it to the 2015 Oscars list.
10. Get on Up
Director Tate Taylor wants to amaze the world with a deep biopic of monumental artist James Brown and hopes to leave with a few Oscar awards or at least to brag that he cast Oscar – worthy actors and actresses. The distribution is compelling: Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Dan Aykroyd, and Jill Scott. Will this movie have the same success of “Ray”? We’ll just have to wait and see.
9. Foxcatcher
Placed by the people from Collider on the tenth place of Oscar bait movies, Foxcatcher tells an interesting story of a man named John Du Pont, a paranoid millionaire who kills a friend, builds a wrestling center and is paranoid enough to keep us entertained with his actions. Among the stars who will bless this movie are Steve Carell, Mark Ruffalo, Channing Tatum, Vanessa Redrgave, Sienna Miller and if they are not Oscar material, nobody is.
8. The Giver
A Lois Lowry’s classic utopian novel adapted for the silver screen by Phillip Noyce and brought to life by Alexander SkarsgĂ„rd, Meryl Streep, Taylor Swift, Jeff Bridges, and Katie Holmes. How does that sound?
7. The Homesman
Tommy Lee Jones as both director and star. Sounds a lot like The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada but this time Mr. Jones brings in the big guns (or famous actors) like Hilary Swank, James Spader, Hailee Steinfeld, Meryl Streep and Grace Gummer, making us all wonder when did Meryl Streep had the time to feature in all these movies and when will the Academy grant her the fourth Oscar she deserves?
6. Big Eyes
You know how everybody almost facepalsm themselves when they hear the name of Tim Burton and his movies, as they usually feature a face white painted crazed Johnny Depp and some absurd story line. But this time, after a prolific career, Mr. Burton is said to finally have a shot at the 2015 Oscars with big eyes. Maybe because rumors have it that Amy Adams’ performance is spectacular to the point of breathtaking.
5. Into the Woods
Meryl Streep again? Oh well, we have a new musical on our hands ladies and gentlemen, and given the distribution and the directorial vision on this one, we may be the witnesses of a new Chicago phenomenon.
4. Knight of Cups
What we have here is not only solid Oscar bait, but a knightly gathering of cinema princes and princesses (Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Rooney Mara, Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett) all summoned by director Terrence Malick who is known for having his special ways of making movies. The movies to make it to the Oscars 2015 list just got enriched with a new powerful contender.
3. Gone Girl
About Ben Aflleck being the new hot Dark Knight in town… we’ll pass this one, as there is enough debate in the world around the subject. However, Ben Affleck in a movie directed by David Fincher and with a script written by Gilliam Flynn and Leslie Dixon after author Gilian Flynn’s novel is a topic that will surely become very hot in the nearest future, as Ben wants to add just another Oscar award to his collection after his spectacular win with Argo.
2. The Imitation Game
Place your bets people, as we will have a fierce fight if not for Best Picture, at least for Best Leading Actor, as we have the mind blowing Benedict Cumberbatch playing famous Alan Turing, the British mathematician who had a major contribution to the good guys winning the World War II. This will be a character – centered drama and if Benedict does the miracles he does on the silver screen, we will be in for a big surprise.
1. Interstellar
You will see this movie on any movies to make it to the 2015 Oscars list because it does indeed come with an interstellar distribution and a story that might fill the cinemas all over the world on release day: this is a Christopher Nolan film featuring Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Matt Damon, Ellen Burstyn, and Michael Caine in a futuristic sci-fi drama. And looking at the cast, you can make your own guess on how the dice will roll at the next Oscar Awards event.
There are more than just these movies, as the competition seems to be more and more fierce as time goes by: The Grand Budapest Hotel, Inherent Vice, Exodus or Unbroken are just as tough competitors as the others. And even these are very very early predictions and everybody might be just plain wrong, it doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep an eye on each of these movies, because every one has a beautiful cast and a remarkable story.
