Halloween is just around the corner and we have thought of a playlist to make a scary surrounding, just as dark as the holiday itself.
The tradition of this celebration of Celtic origin required even the “strong” hearted to let themselves be frightened, or at least, say, taken by the thrill of this special night when the gates open to the unseen world (not just the world, but also mythology), when earthlings come face to face with werewolves, vampires, ghosts, witches, demons, incubus, nymphs and elves.
And the background of such events (in addition, horror movies should be on the list of activities for a Halloween night), it would be ideal to have a playlist that makes you feel the uneasy atmosphere that is spread on the ground once the dark is set.
So, here are ten scary Halloween songs you should consider for a perfect Halloween playlist.
1. Alice Cooper – Feed My Frankenstein
Alice Cooper is recognized as an eccentric character, so the title of the song should lead us directly to the two screenings of writer Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein. It remains up to you which version you choose, the 1931 film directed by James Whale, or the one in 1994, starring Robert De Niro, directed by Kenneth Branagh.
2. O. Children – Dead Disco Dancer
Although it doesn’t have the same experience as the rest of the songs in our tops, O. Children are worth mentioning. With a name taken after the song The Bad Seeds and a sound influenced by Sisters of Mercy and musical project of Nick Cave, this English band is the perfect choice when it comes to a Halloween party.
3. Marilyn Manson – This is Halloween
Marilyn Manson needs no introduction. In what concerns the Manson character, we have a scary story accompanied by destructive arrangements and vocal inflections that the singer has already accustomed us with.
4. Rammstein – Ich Tu Dir Weh
As we have become accustomed with Rammstein’s Ich Tu Dir Weh, Till Lindemann starring with a flickering light bulb in his mouth, makes you feel the need to carve out a pumpkin and light it on the inside.
5. Theatre of Tragedy – And when He Falleth
With such a track as this one from Theatre of Tragedy, we settle down and dive into the deep stance of the fallen soul.
6. Redbone – The Witch Queen of New Orleans
And we go to The Witch Queen of New Orleans. It was mandatory to have a non-witch queen character in our story. Plus the guys from Redbone have a cheerful and pleasant sound, in tune with pumpkins lit inside.
7. Motley Crue – Shout at the Devil
The album titled Carnival of sins is actually a video album containing sections of concerts, and the one we chose for you is representative for a night of Halloween, if we analyze the costumes in the opening scene.
8. Motorhead – Dead Men Tell no Tales
Considering the Motorhead tune, there is much to say, a lot of horror stories to be told, meant to scare even the most courageous people.
9. Placebo – Sleeping with Ghosts
We chose this song for the quiet and emblematic end of the night of Halloween. The sound is as pale as the mimic of Brian Molko, but falls into the atmosphere of the end. Somehow, all the ghosts sleep.
10. The Sisters of Mercy – Lucretia, My Reflection
With a strong bass that basically supports the entire piece, Lucretia, My Reflection is a highlight of The Sisters of Mercy discography and while the sound is perfect for a gloomy evening of October 31st, it’s worth listening to at any time of year.
So, how do you spend Halloween? Are you planning to throw a scary party? If so, don’t forget to choose the right music, so that you guests feel all the time surrounded by the gloomy atmosphere brought by this holiday of fear and death.
