And we’re back with the latest installment of our trilogy of the best video games out there. Today we are going to present you with our list of the top 10 video games of the 00’s. The 2000’s were the golden years of video games, it was a time when Sony and Nintendo have exploded onto the market; the Wii video game console was introduced and we saw how it revolutionized the way we play video games; we’ve had Guitar Hero and increasingly violent first-person shooter games, so it was quite hard to compile a list of the best 10 games, as there were so many great ones, but we gave it a try. Hope you like it!
10. Angry Birds (2009)
It was first released for Apple’s operating system and it became an instant success. Why? It is a simple puzzle game and not too exciting. Oh, but it is so addictive. Who knew throwing various birds at pigs would make for awesome entertainment? Now that insanely annoying theme song can be heard on PCs and on all smartphones.
9. World of Warcraft (2004)
We’re expecting some negative feedback for putting World of Warcraft on the number 9 position, and we say bring it on! There is a massive community behind this game, over 10 million subscribers as of October 2012 and it holds the Guinness World Record for the most popular massive multiplayer online role-playing game or MMORPG (quite a mouthful, we know). If you don’t know anything about it, you could try the free Starter Edition and see if you like it. We bet you will, 10 million people can’t be wrong.
8. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (2004)
If it’s violence and recklessness you’re looking for in a game, then GTA is for you! You have to help CJ find the culprits for his mother’s death and punish them. Walk, drive and shoot and make sure bad guys are disciplined. Maybe you didn’t know this, but GTA: San Andreas is the best-selling game for Playstation 2.
7. Wii Sports (2006)
When the Wii video game console came onto the market in 2006, people were blown away. It was revolutionary and everyone wanted to have one. The Wii Sport package was so popular and fun that you can safely say it reunited families. It was something you could do as a group, move around and get those muscles in motion. God forbid you go outside and do something! Still, it’s a pretty amazing game to play and we love it.
6. Halo: Combat Evolved (2001)
Combat Evolved is a first-person shooter, the first of the Halo franchise. It is number 6 on our list because it is great and very entertaining. The graphics are good, the plot is interesting and it is very addictive. It is one of the first great first-person shooters and we salute it.
5. BioShock (2007)
It is a brutal first-person game with a political angle; great graphics and witty dialogue paint a picture of the underwater city of Rapture in the year 1960. Would you kindly? has become the game’s most favorite line. When someone talks to our character, Jack, and starts with would you kindly, what follows is a command that Jack cannot refuse to execute.
4. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (2007)
Guitar Hero brought something new to the world of games. Something as simple as pressing some virtual chords has become so popular, that there are tournaments of Guitar Hero. You can play this on your PC, phone and Wii.
3. The Sims (2000)
Some have said about The Sims that it is more of a toy, than it is a game. There is no way you can win the game, you can simply control the lives of your characters, play God and enjoy it! But don’t think you get to control the characters too much, they have a mind of their own and react if they’re not happy about something. Did you know that there’s a movie in the works that is based on this game?!
2. Half-Life 2 (2004)
We’ve covered the first Half-Life game in our top 10 video games of the 90’s and now it’s time for the second installment. Valve Corporation, the company who developed it, spend $40 million dollars and five years on it and it was well worth it – it is now one of the most popular games in the world.
1. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007)
The action takes place in 2011 in the Middle East and it is one of the most immersive games ever to be created. The levels of intensity sky-rocket and by the end of the game you are left tired and content, feeling as if you actually were a part of the battle. It has received many awards for Best Game of 2007 and that is why it is number one on our list. We highly recommend you go out and buy it!
I hope you enjoyed our three top ten lists of the best video games from the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. Are there any games you think should have made our list? If so, feel free to let us know by commenting below. Thanks!
