10 Most Courageous Heroines on the Big Screen

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) proves her courage in the first Hunger Games film and in Catching Fire she strengthens our belief that she could lead a rebellion in the third part of the franchise. See what other courageous heroines on the big screen in a ranking made by TotalFilm.

1. Jean Gray, X -Men

Heroine: A female mutant with psychic powers and the protégé of Professor X in the X -Men series of films created by Bryan Singer. Her moment of courage is when she saves the X Men at the end of the movie X – Men 2, by sacrificing herself.

2. Erin Brockovich, Erin Brockovich

Moment of courage: Erin is courageous on principle and almost everything she does is an act of courage – from the simple gesture to address a case over her powers to the gesture of visiting families who have suffered from chemical pollution.

3. Thelma and Louise, Thelma and Louise

Heroines: The best of friends Thelma (Geena Davis) and Louise (Susan Sarandon) embark on the adventure of their lives when Louise shoots a man who tries to rape Thelma in a parking lot.

Moment of courage: Following the tough confrontations at first, follows the sequence where they throw themselves of the cliffs at the end – the two girls know they have nowhere to run and do not want to disappear discreetly.

4. Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games

Moment of courage: The scene where she offers herself as a tribute to the Hunger Games to save her sister and when she is ready to eat a poisoned fruit at the end of games. A really tough girl.

5. Katana Sword Bride, Kill Bill

A former assassin, Uma Thurman appears here dressed completely in yellow. Moment of courage: When fighting with katana swords worries presented as “Crazy 88” and manages to defeat them all, leaving behind a blood bath.

6. Nikita, Nikita

Heroine: A former drug addict, Nikita (Anne Parillaud) is transformed into the perfect assassin by a mysterious corporation. Acting in Paris, she becomes an undercover agent and assassin.

Moment of courage: the bravest moment is when Nikita concludes her dealings with the criminal corporation and throws her guns away. That takes guts.

7. Hit –Girl, Kick -Ass

Moment of courage: Taking a bullet in the chest is not called cowardice, but there is another scene, even more badass, in which Hit -Girl leads a raid on the headquarters of the villain D’Amico (Mark Strong), annihilating an entire army of bodyguards.

9. Marge Gunderson, Fargo

Heroine: The police chief in the town of Brainerd is a brave woman named Marge, successfully investigating a crime although she is seven months pregnant.

10. Gale Weathers, Scream

Cunning, ambitious, ruthless, Gale Weathers is exactly the kind of reporter that you need when a serial killer is on the loose – the type of reporter who does not give up without a fight.
