If you’re tired of going to the same old New Year’s Eve Party ever year, how about you do something different this year? What are your thoughts on themed parties? We think they are a blast! You can get dressed up and welcome the New Year in style. We have some great themes for an amazing New Year’s Eve party, feel free to get inspired and do something out of the ordinary.
10. Welcome to the 80’s!
An 80’s inspired party is fun because the clothes are wacky and the music is awesome. It’s easy to set up and to put together your costume: a hair scrunchie, some flashy mom jeans and a mesh tank top is all you need. For men, Van Halen hair, MacGyver jeans, a neon green T-shirt and you’re good to go. There is plenty of inspiration for it online, so start searching!
9. Rockabilly
Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and it began in the USA in the early 50’s. The term is a blend of rock ‘n’ roll and hillbilly (much as the music us). If you don’t really know where to look for inspiration we have one word for you: Grease! Go on, watch it one more time and tell us you don’t feel inspired to spend the New Year’s Eve dressed up like those kids!
8. Hippy, Hippy Shake
The hippy movement is still alive and kicking, but its members are but less than a fraction of what they used to be. It doesn’t take much to dress up like a hippy, just some bellbottom jeans, tie-die shirt, lots of flowers in your hair and if you don’t forget the peace sign (it can be a necklace or a temporary tattoo), you are done. Peace out!
7. TV Shows
A TV Show inspired party will give you the best and most original photos. Choose a TV show you and your friends like and go wild! It’s not hard to dress up like a TV show character, as they usually wear pretty common outfits, so put on a shirt and dad pants, a false goatee and a hat and be Heisenberg from Breaking Bad. On don a suit and be Barney from How I Met Your Mother. The party will sure be Legend-wait for it-dary!
6. Halloween Repeat
Some people like Halloween so much that they can’t get enough of it and want to dress up in their scary outfits as often as they can. If you love Halloween, then take advantage of the New Year and get yourself the scariest costume ever! No sexy nurses or police officers! Do it right, and have your costume really scare people!
5. Metal Madness
Heavy metal lovers will find this a bit offensive, but who’s to blame if the heavy metal bands’ outfits look a lot like costumes? If you don’t really know what to wear, we propose you do a Google Image search for bands such as Iron Maiden, Panthera, Megadeth, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Slayer and Manowar (especially their Iron Glory Ride album cover – for inspiration and laughs).
4. Artsy Theme
Why not do something a bit more fancy and choose to dress up like artists, painters and writers? It’s fun and you’ll get to learn a bit more about them as you search for inspiration for the costume. A party where someone is dressed as Salvador Dali is a party worth going to and one that you won’t forget easily!
3. The Roaring Twenties
This year’s The Great Gatsby made all of us wish, at least for a second, that we lived in the roaring 20’s, where the parties never ended and the money seemed to grow on trees. What makes the 20’s a great theme for an amazing New Year’s Party is the music. Dance all night long on Al Jolson’s Swanee or Louis Armstrong’s West End Blues.
2. Underwater Love
This probably is the corniest theme on our list, but corny doesn’t necessarily have to be awful, it can be fun if done right (and by done right we mean as a joke). Where else would you get away with wearing a mermaid or a shark outfit? Nowhere!
1. Movies, Movies, Movies
Movies have to be the best source of inspiration for any costume party. All you have to do is choose your favorite movie character and dress up like them. Our advice is to not go straight for Holly Golightly from Breakfast at Tiffany’s; put some effort in it, try something that would be harder to recognize, to keep people guessing all night long.
