#1 The 100

The CW has made a name for itself for producing TV shows that are generally aimed at teenagers and young adults. After successes like Supernatural or The Vampire Diaries, the post-apocalyptic The 100 is the definite next big thing. Set in the future, 97 years after a nuclear cataclysm emptied Earth, a spacecraft that fosters the only survivors sends back 100 juvenile delinquents for the purpose of having them repopulate the planet.

The TV series received several recognitions, including three Teen Choice Awards nominations and an Emmy Primetime Awards nomination.

#2 Marvel’s Luke Cage

Netflix is continuing its series of Marvel-inspired productions kickstarted by Daredevil through to Luke Cage. A former convict who’s been both blessed and cursed with superhuman strength and unbreakable skin, he’s now dedicated his life to fighting crime. The series has been in production for nearly three years now. The role of Luke Cage was handed to Mike Colter, and he was first seen as a recurring character in Marvel’s Jessica Jones.

All episodes of the show are due to be released on September 30th, 2016, on Netflix.

#3 American Horror Story

Whether it’s because of its brilliant cinematography, acting, directing, or storytelling, those of us with iron stomachs were enthralled by the American Horror Story format. With each season centering on a different setting and a different cast of characters, this FX production is all about the horror expressed in its title.

American Horror Story was critically acclaimed, having won 86 awards, including Golden Globes and Emmy Primetime Awards, and having received 225 other nominations. The fifth season is going to have several actors return, including Lady Gaga.

#4 Supergirl

For those who only wish to watch a TV show easy to follow, adventurous, and free of plot webs and complications, Supergirl is the one for you. Following the adventures of Superman’s cousin, this DC-inspired production brings us back to old-school superhero series.

Upon the airing of its first season, Supergirl won two awards, including for Critics Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards.

#5 Marvel’s Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones sounded promising from the first moment we got a sneak peek at the series. Not only were the expectations high, thanks to the success of Daredevil, but the excellent casting choices (*cough* David Tennant *cough*) only made us more excited. Needless to say, the atypical heroine was a hit with audiences and she is about to return to Netflix in fall 2016.

#6 The Blacklist

There are plenty of detective series on the market, so it’s good that Blacklist knew how to stand out. By having rookie FBI agent Elizabeth Keen team up with a criminal among the Ten Most Wanted, the series managed to infuse into the story an ambiguous morality and a fantastic dynamic.

About to premiere its fifth season, Blacklist received several nominations, including for the Golden Globes, and won a Primetime Emmy Award.

#7 Gotham

Those invested in the world of DC will undoubtedly enjoy Gotham to the best it has to offer. Initially intended as a series which depicts the rise to power of detective James Gordon, it branched into providing audiences with origin stories to an array of DC villains, including the Joker, Catwoman, or Poison Ivy.

Gotham was nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards and has won several other recognitions.

#8 Quantico

Quantico is classified as a terrorist thriller, for all the right reasons. The series is kicked off by accusations of terrorism aimed at series protagonist Alex Parrish then drifts into a series of flashbacks that depict the lives of FBI trainees at the Quantico academy. The show was recently renewed and we can see a bright future ahead of it.

#9 Blindspot

Brought from the same network that airs Blacklist, it’s safe to assume that Blindspot has a lot of potential. The premise is centered on a young woman who is found by the FBI. They discover that she has no memories and that each of the many tattoos covering her body represents a clue to a crime they will have to solve.

#10 How To Get Away With Murder

A brilliant criminal defense professor and her five law school interns get tangled in a series of murders that they must cover. How To Get Away With Murder is a story that makes excellent use of timeline alternations and stellar performances delivered by the cast members.

The series has been renewed for a third season and, so far, has received several recognitions, including two Golden Globes nominations.
