This year promises to give us an amazing visual show with various movies, from blockbusters to big-name director motion pictures and indie movies. It can prove quite a challenge to determine the best of the best, but fans can agree on the following awesome movies.
1. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice
Let us begin this top awesome movies list with probably the most anticipated motion picture of the year. The next movie from D.C. is focused on the conflict between two iconic superheroes: Superman (Henry Cavill) and Batman (Ben Affleck). The duo will be joined by Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, along with the villain Doomsday. The movie is sure to feature stunning visuals and plenty of action scenes, as it is directed by Zack Snyder.
2. Captain America: Civil War
On the other side, Marvel has its own movie in the works, quite similarly pitting two heroes against one another. This time it is Captain America (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). The fact that the U.S. government forces superheroes to become subject to the federal regulation splits the Marvel superheroes in two: the ones who support the measure and the ones who are against it. Thus, the conflict starts and we can only wait to see who will survive.
3. High-Rise
Director Ben Wheatley is the one at the helm of this adaptation of the novel by J.G. Ballard. Protagonist Tom Hiddleston dives in new waters with this bizarre role, but is also joined by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Elisabeth Moss and Sienna Miller. However, this does not tame the action happening in the luxury high-rise building.
4. Snowden
Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the title role in this biopic. Snowden includes hot topics such as the Vietnam war, gun violence and the Kennedy assassination. However, the motion picture does have the potential to create many discussions as we have previously witnessed with the Citizenfour documentary by Laura Poitras.
5. Alice Through the Looking Glass
The sequel of the 2010 movie by Tim Burton is set to become one of the awesome movies. Mia Wasikowska reprises her role as Alice and must return to Wonderland to rescue the Mad Hatter. Other returning actors include Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, and Anne Hathaway. However, the new director is James Babin, since Tim Burton has stepped away from the helm. We shall see whether he will leave his touch on the movie or not.
6. Untitled ‘Bourne’ Movie
Matt Damon returns for the next Bourne movie in order to clean up the mess from the previous one. Along with director Paul Greengrass who has worked on the The Bourne Ultimatum and The Bourne Legacy, this sequel promises to take us on an adventure through Europe, after the disclosures of Edward Snowden. Although the movie is set to be released in July, it still does not have a title.
7. Suicide Squad
As the most popular movies of this period continue to be the superhero ones, these awesome movies could not be complete without Suicide Squad. The story focuses on the super-villains rather than heroes, and includes famous figures such as Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith. The motion picture promises to be even more darker than anything previously released by D.C.
8. Doctor Strange
Continuing on the same note, Marvel has decided to bring their own personal sorcerer to the big screen. Played by Benedict Cumberbatch, Doctor Strange will have to fight the likes of Mads Mikkelsen and Chiwetel Ejiofor, and will undoubtedly fall in love with Rachel McAdams. The protagonist’s mentor who teaches him dark magic will surely be a delight as she is played by Tilda Swinton.
9. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
Harry Potter fans can rejoice after a break of five years from the big screen, as the much awaited spin-off by J.K. Rowling herself will be released in November. Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) and his fellow wizards are led by director David Yates, who also worked on the last four Harry Potter movies. This should turn out quite nicely since Rowling herself has written the script.
10. Passengers
The last on our list of awesome movies is Passengers. This movie shows the story of an astropassenger played by Chris Pratt, who wakes up from cryogenic sleep sixty years earlier. Thus, instead of spending the rest of his days alone in the spacecraft, he decides to wake up another passenger, none other than Jennifer Lawrence.
