A while ago we talked about some habits you need to give up and now it’s time we revisited that with a look at 10 bad habits you need to kick. These habits are some of the most common bad habits out there. We’ve all got at least one of them and we know we have to kick them; otherwise we jeopardize our health and sanity. If you have any of these, do yourself a favor and do something about it, don’t just accept it. While at first, a bad habit can bring pleasure, it’s not long before it stresses your mind and your body. Good luck!
10. Not Drinking Enough Water
It is recommended that women drink 91 ounces of water every day and men drink 125 ounces. Are you drinking enough water? Did you know that not drinking enough water can have a huge impact not only on your health, but also on your skin, making you look ashy and gaunt? If you don’t like water (come on, really?!) you can make yourself a nice jug of herbal tea!
9. Nail Biting
People, especially teenagers, bite their nails because they’re anxious, stress or nervous. This bad habit needs to get kicked, because it can really hurt! Try calming down every time you feel like biting your nails, or get some bitter nail polish to deter you from biting your nails. Did you know that 90% of people who bite their nails stop by the age of 30? So you could just wait it out!
8. Excessive TV Watching
People watch too much TV, that is a fact! But did you know that there have been several studies that have revealed that excessive TV watched increases the risk of developing heart disease and type 2 diabetes? You can do without so much TV, we’re sure. Go for a walk or read a book, both activities are much better for your body and mind.
Most people have access to more food than we should. Because of this we can turn food into an addiction and it’s one of the worst addictions out there. It’s so hard to stop and so hard to be balanced once you stop. It’s not like with alcohol, where you just don’t touch the thing! Remember each time you’re reaching for food because you’re bored or angry, that people should eat to live, not live to eat.
6. Falling Asleep On the Couch
You wouldn’t think that this habit is a bad one, but it truly is. It’s because it interferes with the quality of your sleep and your brain doesn’t really rest during that time. Even closed, our eyes can identify light, which in turn gets our brain excited. You’re never going to get a good night’s sleep in front of the television.
5. Not Flossing
So you brush your teeth twice daily! Congratulations! But what about flossing? Do you do it every day or every week? Did you know that only half of Americans floss daily? Even if the habit bores you, make an effort and do it, because it really makes a difference. Don’t you want to hang on to your teeth for as long as possible?
4. Artificial Sweeteners
Another of these bad habits you need to kick is the consumption of artificial sweeteners, especially aspartame. There have been countless scientific studies that have shown the horrible effects of the stuff on the human body, yet it is still legal. Look at those ants, they won’t even go near it, yet people are crazy about it. It makes you think, doesn’t it?
3. Binge Drinking
Oh, the long-awaited weekend! It’s time you took our your party hat and drank all the alcohol in the world. Many Americans think this way and this bad habit is doing so much damage to our bodies, making us fat, affecting our hearts and lowering our life expectancy. Try to keep your alcohol intake at a minimum. We know it may not be easy, but make an effort, for your own sake.
2. Cigarette Smoking
Are you still smoking?! Well, it’s time you did something about that. Quitting smoking can be one of the hardest things a person will have to do in their lifetime, but it’s also the best thing they can do. Try hypnotherapy, working out, nicotine patches, nicotine gum. There is a lot of help available out there for people who want to quit, just reach out!
1. Not Exercising
Your body is a well-oiled machine that only works if you take good care of it. If you stop taking care of it, it breaks down and stops working. You wouldn’t want that, would you? Well, then you should exercise at least 30 minutes every day if you want to ward off heart disease, diabetes and obesity (just to name a few of the killers).
