We all line up to see the latest 3D blockbuster, starring drop dead gorgeous actresses and dudes with perfect six packs. But this time around, we’ve compiled a different kind of top, that doesn’t contain A listed actors or stunning special effects. The following films are definitely not for the faint of heart, so if you found “Saw” unsettling, you should buckle up, because it doesn’t hold a handle to the following twisted movies plots and deranged characters with psychopathic behaviors.
10. August Underground’s Mordum (2003)
Let’s kick things off starting with this low budget movie that is weird and unsettling. The very first scene illustrates an incest and it’s followed by a long string of atrocities that are repugnant enough to only think about, let alone put them on film. Still, if you’re curious about the plot of “Mordum”, here’s a sneak peek: a girl vomits on two others before the latter are savagely killed. This scene is followed by a man castrating himself with a pair of scissors and his severed penis is then fellated by a girl.
9. Beyond The Darkness (1979)
Director Joe D’Amato shocked the public in the late ’70s with this film that revolves around necrophilia, perverse acts, torture and sadism. The main character, Frank, a devious and murderous guy, digs up his girlfriend’s body in an attempt to preserve their love. Together with his housekeeper, Iris, they embark on a spree of weird acts including removing the organs, eyes and blood from a corpse. The peculiarities don’t stop here. The movie is sprinkled with gruesome killing scenes and queer sexual perversions that probably couldn’t be stomached by the average Hollywood movies consumer.
8. Entrails Of A Virgin (1986)
We’re used to Japanese movies delivering incredibly unsettling scenes and mind blowing scenarios, but director Kazuo ‘Gaira’ Komizu set new standards with “Entrails of a virgin”. Following a photo shoot in a rural part of Japan, the crew members try to make their way back home but end up spending the night in an empty house. They spice up their evening by playing teasing sexual games while drinking. Little do they know they’re about to become the victims of a psychopath who will enjoy killing the men and raping the women, culminating with a girl having her guts pulled out of her in a disturbing manner.
7. I Spit On Your Grave 2 (2013)
This sequel revolves around a wanna be model living in the concrete jungle of New York City, in need to redo her photo book. She hooks up with three dubious men who agree to help her with the portfolio. It doesn’t take long before she realizes their work is illegitimate and before she knows it she ends up in a basement in Bulgaria, tied up with chains. She manages to set herself free and wants to get revenge. You have probably guessed by now what this means: gruesome scenes, violent sex images and gory close ups.
6. A Serbian Film (2010)
This movie is packed with every possible perversion you might think up. Director Srdjan Spasojevic clearly didn’t shy away from exploring taboos by including scenes of rape, incest, necrophilia, sadism and torture. Miloš, the main character, is a porn star who agrees to play in an shady “art film”, hoping this break through will help him and his family leave Serbia. Unfortunately, he is forced to do many appalling acts, including violent sex and hitting a woman with a machete.
5. Salò, Or The 120 Days Of Sodom (1975)
Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini found inspiration in the book that bears the same name written in 1785 by Marquis de Sade. In case you missed this sadistic classic in your universal literature class, here’s a plot resume for you: four men kidnap 18 young boys and girls and sexually abuse and torture them for over four months. The whole affair ends up with the wealthy kidnappers killing their victims, slaughtering them merciless.
4. Scrapbook (2000)
The main assaulter of this movie, Leonard, has a fetish for kidnapping women, torturing them and forcing them to write down their thoughts. In addition to this, he also gets a knack out of taking Polaroid shots of his victims, so he can hold on to those vivid moments for ever. One of his victims, Clara, figures out a way to escape and tries to seduce Leonard by making him believe she’s falling for him. Unfortunately for her, things do not go according to plan.
3. Grotesque (2009)
No, we’re not yet done with Japanese gory films. “Grotesque” presents the kidnapping of a couple who is tied up in the killer’s basement where they are mutilated and tortured. More of a chain of violent image than a film with a plot, this one delivers gruesome scenes of a perverse psychopath who is played by Osako Shigeo.
2. Guinea Pig: Flower Of Flesh And Blood (1985)
As most gory movies, this too starts off with an abduction. A Japanese girl is kidnapped and tied to a bed where she is drugged up until she passes out. Her assailant then meticulously proceeds to dismembering her with various utensils, taking his time in carefully operating on his work of art.
1. The Angels’ Melancholia (2009)
Our no. 1 pick is a German film that combines depravity acts, animal cruelty and dead bodies in a shocking and disturbing way. A group of morally corrupt people indulge themselves in perverse acts that add to the gore and deviousness of this movie. Directed by Marian Dora,”Melancholie Der Engel” has 3.5/10 stars on iMDB, which speaks volumes about its cinematographic nuances and overall importance.
