We can definitely say that the gaming industry hasn’t been lacking so far. Whether Dark Souls III, Uncharted 4, or Quantum Break lived up to the expectations, that’s up to debate (with critics and personal taste), but there’s no denying that the hype around them was real. With seven months still left ahead of us, we have a bunch of titles around the corner that are building up just as many expectations. These are the 10 Most Hyped Games In The market today (in chronological order).
#1 Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst
Courtesy of EA
Release Date: June 7
Platforms: PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Completely unlike EA, it seems like the company has repeatedly delayed the release date of the sequel to its highly successful Mirror’s Edge game. With this in mind, many fans are hopeful that the delay might imply a high-quality product that lacks the bugs and errors so many EA game players seem to roll their eyes at.
Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst will maintain the core features of the first game (the first-person perspective and its open-world parkour action), which made it so popular. In addition, we’ll delve deeper into the origin story of protagonist Faith.
#2 Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps
Courtesy of Capcom
Release Date: June 21
Platforms: PC and PS4
It’s pretty difficult to associate Resident Evil with the word “hype” these days. Many fans seem to have lost as much interest in the franchise as they have lost faith in Capcom. Those who got a sample of Umbrella Corps beg to differ and claim that the series wishes to surprise you by reinventing itself.
The latest Resident Evil installment will be a multiplayer first or third-person shooter. No story mode will be available, with players being tasked with the exploration of a bio-terrorist wreckage. The zombies will be there, naturally, and this, combined with the accent put on stealth and strategy, might just prove to be an interesting combo.
#3 Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
Courtesy of Square Enix
Release Date: August 23
Platforms: PC, PS4, and Xbox One
The latest installment in the Deus Ex franchise is on its day and it promises to give to players a varied experience by providing a gameplay that combines shooter elements with dialogue branches and role-playing elements. In the timeline of the series, Mankind Divided is a follow-up to Human Revolution and it brings back into the spotlight a newly upgraded Adam Jensen. Players will be able to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives.
#4 Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom
Courtesy of Koei Tecmo
Release Date: August 30
Platforms: PC, PS3, PS4, Vita, and Xbox One
It doesn’t look like we are going to be given a release date for the second season anytime soon, but at least we’ll have an official video game to keep us occupied in the meantime. Wings of Freedom was already released in Japan and it’s due to come to Western consoles at the very end of this year’s summer.
The game features many key moments from the series and graphics that resemble those of the anime. As you’d expect, you’ll be battling a lot of titans, while also making use of the 3D Maneuver Gear.
#5 Final Fantasy XV
Courtesy of Square Enix
Release Date: September 30
Platforms: PS4 and Xbox One
While we are all most excited about the remake of arguably the franchise’s greatest installment, Final Fantasy VII, a new standalone game should be a reason for celebration too. XV will feature plenty of conspirations and action and it’s going to flaunt a battle system inspired by Kingdom Hearts and Type-0.
Players will be able to explore an open world, which makes use of weather conditions that will leave their mark on the character’s powers and clothing. Moreover, the dynamism of the map will also include a day-and-night system which influences the types of monsters you can encounter.
#6 Gears of War 4
Courtesy of Microsoft Studios
Release Date: October 11
Platforms: Xbox One
Gears of War 4 will be released, unsurprisingly, as an Xbox One exclusive and it promises to keep many of the core elements of previous games, while also adding new features to improve the experience.
New weapons such as the Combat Knife, the Dropshot, and the Buzzkill are part of the novelty features, as well as four different weather types that can vary from light breeze to violent windstorms that can pose a serious obstacle.
#7 Dishonored 2
Courtesy of Bethesda Softworks
Release Date: November 11
Platforms: PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Bethesda Softworks’ highly popular action-adventure stealth role-playing game is going to give us a sequel sometime around the end of the year. Players will be able to choose whether they want to play as Corvo Attano, the first game’s protagonist, or the newly introduced Empress Emily Kaldwin.
Plenty of details have been given about the gameplay, including the fact that the supernatural skills will be unlocked via a skill tree and that the players will be able to choose a path of violence or non-violence in order to finish the game.
#8 Pokemon Sun & Moon
Courtesy of The Pokemon Company
Release Date: November 18
Platforms: Nintendo 3DS
Nintendo is soon going to give us all yet another Pokemon installment, which this time promises to be a new experience while keeping the same basics and outlines of all previous games. The game will be set in an environment that strongly resembles real-life Hawaii and it will maintain the engaging 3D graphics that were introduced in X and Y then upgraded in Omega Ruby and Omega Sapphire.
#9 Outlast 2
Courtesy of Red Barrels
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PC, PS4, and Xbox One
Fans of the horror genre also have a reason to celebrate. One of the greatest horror games in recent years is getting a sequel and, earlier this year, we managed to get a sneak peek into the cornfield terrors of the new installment.
Outlast 2 is going to continue to rely on its graphics and night vision via camera, but is going to take the player to a whole new location which, so far, looks a lot like a farm.
#10 Persona 5
Courtesy of Atlus
Release Date: TBA
Platforms: PS4
Last but not least, one of the best JRPG games ever is finally releasing its latest product. Persona 5 recently released artwork of the characters that will appear in the new game, making sit even tighter on the edge of their seats.
Not many things are known about the latest installment, save for the fact that it seems like its main color will be red. But given how Persona 4 managed to be a great step forward from its prequel, we have all the reasons to foster high hopes for the fifth one.
