It won’t be long until March 2nd and we can’t wait to see who will go home with the famous golden statue. The nominations and predictions are hot stuff on the internet right now but we’re also dying to see this year’s best and worst dresses on the red carpet. As we know, the critics are unforgiving but let’s just hope no one will catch their eyes this year. We’ve looked through our archive and we want to share with you the real glamor of Hollywood. So let’s have a look at 10 amazing Oscar dresses so far.
10. Halle Berry
Back in 2002, Miss Berry won an Academy Awards for Best Actress for her amazing performance in Monsters Ball. But that’s not the only thing she won that night. Apart from being the first African-American woman to win this award, Halle Berry looked stunning in her Elie Saab gorgeous satin and embroidery dress.
9. Kate Hudson
This recent mommy chose a flawless Versace dress to appear at the 2003 Oscars. Supposedly, 500 hours were put into that intricate design that was hand-made out of gold chiffon silk. Mixed with the glowing make-up, the vintage jewelry and the subtle envelope purse Kate looked like a truly stylish starlet.
8. Julianne Moore
One of our favorite redheads, Julianne Moore is perfect in every role. That fair, freckled skin and those gorgeous green eyes were highlighted in the best way by this lovely green siren dress. Made especially for her by her friend Tom Ford, Julianne really pulled off the controversial mermaid dress. We wish her a first Oscar, cause she really deserves it.
7. Naomi Watts
Another astounding Versace hit, this time wore by Aussie actress Naomi Watts for the 2004 Academy Awards. Classy and chic, with this glittering beige column silhouette and a floor-skimming hemline, Naomi shone like a rare precious stone and created an unforgettable red carpet moment.
6. Charlize Theron
Academy Award winner for Best Actress in Monster, Charlize Theron proved not only that she’s a strong, valuable actress, but also that she’s got great taste in fashion. For the 2004 red carpet moment she chose a glimmering Gucci gown, classy and utterly sexy. That backless cut and that draping train, topped by a 40s style hairdo, made Charlize the star of the night.
5. Hilary Swank
2005 was very successful for Hilary Swank. She won an Academy Awards for Best Actress and she wore one of the most amazing Oscar dresses so far. We still remember the stir it caused back then with her very low back cut navy Guy Laroche dress. From the front she looked like she was wearing a pretty conservative party dress. But when she turned and revealed her back we were all taken by a big surprise. A very memorable one.
4. Amazing Oscar Dresses So Far – Michelle Williams
Michelle Williams’ Vera Wang dress she wore in 2006 caused quite a stir. Equally loved and hated by the fashion police, she entered in the history of the Academy Awards style parade. Although some criticized the canary yellow, we thought she looked like a doll princess. Which is always a good thing.
3. Nicole Kidman
In our book, Nicole Kidman is the synonym for elegance and style. Whatever she’s wearing, she wears it the best. In 2007 she looked breathtaking in her scarlet Balenciaga gown, adding a modern twist to the column silhouette with that absolutely fabulous trailing bow. Nicole, we can’t wait to see what you’ll be wearing this year.
2. Marion Cotillard
Oh la la! When Marion won her 2008 Best Actress award, she also made the top lists of almost every fashion blog and magazines. The stunning white mermaid dress designed by the eccentric Jean Paul Gaultier was covered in hundreds of glimmering scales. It really gave a new meaning to mermaid dress. The best meaning, actually.
1.Rooney Mara
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo appeared at the 2012 Oscars in this stunning backless Givenchy Couture gown. The contrast between her gothic hairstyle and make up and the ethereal white dress made her look fragile and unforgettable. And indeed we never forgot her.
With all the buzz around the Oscars nominations at the moment, we’re just dying to see what the divas will surprise us with in 2018. What do you think? Who will make it on the best dressed lists with the most amazing Oscar dresses?
