When it comes to glitz and glamor, no award show is more glamorous and glitzier than the Oscars. It’s where everybody makes an effort to look their best and to impress. This year’s Oscars came and went and we were left with plenty important things to discuss, such as the best dresses at the 2014 Oscars. There have been some amazing Oscar dresses so far, and this year we’ve been blown away by some others that will surely stand the test of time. Let’s take a look at the ten best dresses at the 2014 Oscars and see what the best-dressed female celebrities were.
10. Angelina Jolie
There’s one thing you can’t say about Angelina Jolie and her style: that it’s bold. Angelina always makes dull decisions when it comes to award dresses. It’s always long and shapeless sack dresses that hide her stunning figure and make her look matronly. Well, this Eli Saab is long, shapeless and sacky, but it’s pretty nice and it’s not dull. It’s something Angelina seems to love to wear, so who are we to judge her?
9. Camila Alves
Camila Alves is a Brazilian model and designer and also Matthew McConaughey’s wife and baby mama of three. At this year’s Oscars she simply stole the show in her Gabriela Cadena gown. The pale pink color was gorgeous for her; highlighting her features and not making her look washed out. The design was simple and chic and her hair and make-up were flawless.
8. Kate Hudson
Kate Hudson wore one of the best dresses at the 2014 Oscars. It was Versace and everything about the dress rocked: the color, the design, the cape! I mean, Kate Hudson wore a cape and she rocked it – you can only do that with a Versace dress.
7. Sandra Bullock
Sandra Bullock played it safe and she nailed it. Her deep-blue Alexander McQueen dress was a perfect fit and she looked somber and elegant. If we didn’t know better, we would have never guessed that the dress was Alexander McQueen!
6. Jennifer Garner
Many haven’t been so fond of this Oscar de la Renta dress that Jennifer Garner wore at the 2014 Oscars, but we believe it was perfect for her. She usually goes for more classic dresses and is afraid to take risks, but this year she took a risk and it was great that she did. The silver tulle tiered fringe dress is a piece of jewelry, but we aren’t so sure about the shoes.
5. Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence refused to go with the flow and wear pale pinks, beiges and nudes. Why would she? She’s young, gorgeous and has a magnificent personality. Of course she wore this sexy head-turning Dior gown. It is one of the best dresses at the 2014 Oscars, although we think that peplum should really make an exit right about now. The dress is amazing, but we’ve had enough of peplum. Please, go away, peplum!
4. Penelope Cruz
Penelope gave birth to her second child and she looks like this. Sometime, we think that life’s not fair, but already knew that when she snatched Javier Bardem. She wore a pale pink Giambattista Valli gown, which isn’t a natural choice for her, as she usually goes for something more va-va-vum, but we’re glad she tried this, it works!
3. Charlize Theron
Charlize Theron chose this dramatic black Dior gown and she looked stunning. Although black isn’t really a color, she was a splash of color among all those nude and beiges. We heard that she and her new beau, Sean Penn, made out like crazy teenagers at Madonna’s after party, but somehow, we can’t really imagine making out while wearing that dress.
2. Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett always wears the most stunning and fashion forward gowns. This year she truly played it safe with this Armani dress and she was right to do so. This year’s Oscar gown color was nude and nobody looked better in nude than Cate.
1. Lupita Nyong’o
Lupita Nyong’o was the star of the show. She won Best Actress in a Supporting Role for her performance as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave. She wore this wonderful pale blue Prada Cinderella gown which looked stunning on her. We particularly loved the headband and her hairstyle. Lupita has been nailing it when it comes to fashion this award season, she didn’t a single fashion faux-pas!
